Camp With Us – No Experience Necessary

Have you always wanted to try camping, but aren’t sure what gear to bring or what to do with it once you get out there? Well, grab some friends or your family and sign up for one of our weekend camping workshops at state parks across Texas.

An experienced Texas Outdoor Family instructor will teach you skills such as how to set up a tent, cook outdoors and build a campfire. Best of all, we provide all the equipment! Just bring your own bedding and food.

The workshops include organized outdoor activities like kayaking, hikes, fishing and more. Join us for a weekend of fun and adventure! Camping is easy once you get the hang of it, and spring is the perfect time to camp in Texas.

2017 Resolution: Volunteer Here

tree planting

If your New Year’s resolution includes volunteering, check out the variety of opportunities at state parks in your area with our online search tool.

How much time you commit is up to you. Try a few hours each month enacting living history at Washington-on-the-Brazos. Or you can live at some parks, like Meridian, if you volunteer as a Park Host.

Or start with a one-off. Our volunteer project calendar has one-day events like tree planting in Bastrop or trail work in Dinosaur Valley. Volunteering has been shown to reduce stress and increase feelings of well-being – resolve to do it at a state park in 2017.

State Park Ambassadors

Are you an outdoor fanatic? Become a Texas State Parks Ambassador! These volunteers, all aged 18-30, use their skills and creativity to help state parks and spread the word that Life’s #BetterOutside.

The experience begins with a Leadership Training Adventure: 5 nights of group camping, backpacking and fun. Once completed, each Ambassador partners with a local state park for 3 projects: social media, hands-on service and outreach.

Our next Leadership Training Adventure is for the Gulf Coast region, March 10-15. All young adults in the area who love the outdoors are encouraged to apply
