Public Comment for Nueces County Redistricting Announced

Residents invited to comment on proposed precinct maps

Nueces County will be receiving public comment and input regarding county redistricting efforts during the week of November 8, 2021. Residents are invited to provide their input and share their concerns in person or online at two public forums or to provide them in writing at the Nueces County Courthouse.

Public input meetings will be held in the Nueces County Commissioners Courtroom, located in the Nueces County Courthouse, on Monday, November 8, at 5:30 p.m. and Wednesday, November 10, at 5:30 p.m. Residents may appear in person or attend virtually to provide comment. To view or comment at either of the hearings, visit https://www.nuecesco.com/commissioners-court/commissioners-court-meeting. Written input can also be dropped off into a designated box located inside the Nueces County Courthouse.

The proposed maps were prepared by the Law Offices of Rolando L. Rios, a legal firm with expertise in voting rights and election laws. Their report, the 2020 Redistricting Benchmark Plan Report, was presented to Commissioners Court on Wednesday, November 3, and can be viewed here: 2020 Census Bench Report

Detailed maps based on this report will be posted on the Nueces County website at:

Printed versions of the maps will be available for viewing in the atrium of the Nueces County Courthouse.

Each the 254 Texas counties is divided into four geographic precincts, which are represented by a County Commissioner. Redistricting is a once-a-decade process to update the county precinct maps based on the official data from the 2020 U.S. Census. This process accounts for population shifts since the last census.

Public input is sought to ensure that the redistricting process is fair, equitable and transparent. Under the Voting Rights Act, redistricting plans cannot discriminate on the basis of race, color or membership in a language minority group. Redistricting plans also cannot have a discriminatory effect or purpose. Public input can help produce a new map of the county precincts which represents all of Nueces County.
