Nueces County Office of Emergency Management Issues Initial Advisory for TS Beta
TROPICAL STORM ADVISORY
The public is advised that a watch for Tropical Storm Beta is in effect for the middle Texas Coast, including Nueces County. Tropical Storm Beta, located over the Central Gulf of Mexico, is expected to impact the coast beginning tomorrow, Sunday, September 20. The National Weather Service forecasts from 4 to 6 inches of rain with isolated amounts of up to 8 inches over South Texas. Residents and visitors should expect flooding and take necessary precautions.
Impacts of this storm include Coastal Flooding with the possibility of water up to the dunes on Gulf facing beaches through Nueces County. Nueces County Gulf piers are closed. Small creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Low-laying areas, especially in urban areas, may easily flood.
Due to dangerous conditions and likelihood of severe coastal flooding, vehicular access to all beaches is restricted. Potential for severe rip currents is high along with large debris not easily detected in the surf zone.
Area residents are asked to take necessary precautions to protect lives and secure property. The Nueces County Emergency Operations Center will continue to monitor weather conditions will make operational decisions to protect life and preserve property.
