The Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (METRO) is the region’s largest public transit provider, offering safe, reliable and affordable transportation services about 370,000 times per day. Besides operating more than 1,200 buses, METRO is currently expanding its 13-mile Red Line with two new lines under construction. METRO’s services also include: Star Vanpool, METROLift, HOV lanes, HOT lanes, Bikes-on-Buses/Trains program, Park & Ride, and road improvement projects. Ride METRO FREE on New Year's Day

Revelers ringing in the New Year can leave the driving to METRO - FREE of charge - on that special night.

Safety is priority No.1 at the agency, and rather than get behind the wheel, METRO wants to offer the public a safe option to and from the party.

The FREE RIDES begin at 6 p.m. New Year's Eve (Dec. 31) until 6 a.m. New Year's Day (Jan. 1) on both the bus and METRORail.

METRO's service for New Year's Eve, Dec. 31., 2014, will follow regular, published schedules. METRORAIL hours are extended and trains will operate until 2 a.m.

A quick recap of METRO's service for New Year's Day, Jan. 1:

Local bus routes and METRORail will operate a Sunday schedule.
No Park & Ride service.
Customer Care Center will be closed.
RideStore and Lost & Found will be closed.
