Leadership Houston 'Frames' Success of Build-a-Shelter Project

Group shot LH

Drive along routes 8, 10, 65, 67 or 73, and you'll see four unique METRO bus shelters - two with solar paneling - and all featuring vibrant artwork from local artists.

This was the work of Leadership Houston Class XXXII, which gave the METRO Board of Directors a brief overview of its class project today and presented the board with a framed photo showcasing the four completed shelters.

Members of the class also expressed interest in expanding METRO's Adopt-a-Shelter program by engaging corporate participation and enriching bus shelters with artwork. The group would also like to explore enhancing shelters with shelter with solar-powered lighting and Wi-Fi options.

METRO and Leadership Houston said they will continue to search for opportunities to work together to improve the transit experience.

The four shelters pictured above are located at Bellfort Avenue and Stassen Street; Stella Link Road and Cheena Drive; Bissonnet Street and Albacore Drive; and Brookglade Circle and Dairy Ashford Road. The featured art pieces are by John Ross Palmer, Nicola Parente with Aaron Courtland, Syd Moen and Kelly Devine.
