METRO GIVEN GREEN LIGHT ON REMAINING FFGA FUNDS

Secretary Foxx visit

METRO now has access to the final appropriation of $187.3 million from the federal government for the North and Southeast Lines.

The funds are part of the $900 Full Funding Grant Agreements (FFGA) which were signed by federal officials in 2011 to help METRO build the two light-rail lines.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx and Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee shared the news during a brief visit and tour of rail construction last week.

“All of those funds have been allocated now to METRO in the FFGA - $93M additional for the North Line, $93M additional for the Southeast Line. The full commitment of allocation of the FFGA is now with METRO. We need to draw down on it,” said Tom Lambert, METRO president & CEO.

The North Line, a 5.3-mile extension of the existing Red Line, opened December 21, 2013.

The Southeast (Purple) Line, as well as the locally-funded East End (Green) Line, are slated to open later this year.
