While Houston makes headlines with the biggest population gain in the nation, its Transit Authority reports record ridership on METRORail's Main Street Line with 112 million boardings charted since the line first opened in 2004.
The three weeks of Rodeo, Cook-off and Spring Break activity combined with our regular boardings pushed METRORail ridership to an unprecedented 1.28 million. That’s up 6.6 % from last year. Nearly 471 thousand of those boardings were for Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo events at Reliant Park.
METRO Pres. & CEO Tom Lambert reports, "The numbers are impressive. We had a record METRORail week from March 16th thru March 22nd with a jump of 8.1 percent from our previous record-setting week. The growing number of riders on our system is a direct result of ongoing work and planning by the Board of Directors, and METRO staff with consistent input from the public."
"We are happy to see this increase and believe it is part of a trend fueled by confidence in our great transit services," Lambert concluded.
