METRO Celebrates the Completion of 2,500 Universally Accessible Bus Stops

Ribbon-Cutting Ceremonies Mark Milestone

On Tuesday, May 3, 2022, METRO Board Members and executive leadership will join community members to celebrate a major milestone — the completion of 2,500 universally accessible bus stops.

Members of the media are invited to attend any of four ribbon-cutting ceremonies to be held throughout the Houston area. Learn more about:

  • METRO's commitment to invest more than $135 million — including $30 million from the Houston-Galveston Area Council — in a more accessible future that ensures all 9,000 of its bus stops meet or exceed ADA requirements by 2024.
  • Why universally accessible bus stops mean greater access to health care, schools, and work.
  • How bus stop enhancements like larger bus pads, improved sidewalks and wheelchair ramps improve safety and comfort whether you walk, ride or roll.
  • Why universally accessible design benefits everyone.
