Get on Board with METRO

Get On Board

On Thursday, April 25, 2019 METRO will join dozens of other transit agencies across the country, inviting everyone to try public transit for National Get on Board Day. The awareness effort, sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), highlights the importance of public transportation in our communities.

This week, METRO is inviting riders to tell why they get on board for a chance to win a gift card from one of our participating Rider Rewards sponsors. Just visit one of our social media pages on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram and look for the contest posts for details.

Dana Tyson

Longtime Sunny 99.1 radio host, Dana Tyson, shares how getting on board METRO helps her experience Houston in a whole new way in this episode of METRO's podcast, The Next Stop.

Each weekday across the country, 34 million people board public transit. In FY 2018, METRO provided more than 116 million passenger rides. Along with providing a vital lifeline, METRO helps support the local economy. Nationally, every $1 invested in public transportation generates approximately $4 in economic returns.

Choosing METRO can mean significant savings.  A family can save on average nearly $10,000 by using public transportation and living with one less car.
