METRO Puts You in Driver's Seat for Future Transit Plan

METRO is coming to a neighborhood near you for input on what should happen next to keep the region moving. Billed as a "listening tour," the authority will hold 25 community open house meetings as it develops a new regional transit plan. "METRONext" is designed to build on past successes, examine what works now and prepare for the region's growth. By 2040, the population is expected to reach 10 million.

"It couldn't be more important to hear directly from those people who patronize or have ideas about our system to get a deeper understanding of the region's vision for transit. Success of this critical plan depends on community engagement," said METRO Board Chair Carrin Patman.

All ideas are welcome, from traditional transit solutions to innovative approaches.

The first open house is Tuesday, June 27 from 2 pm.until 4 p.m. at METRO, 1900 Main Street in downtown Houston.

"We hope people make the time to attend these meetings.  It's not for us to tell the public what's next for transit but for the community to tell us," said METRO President and CEO Tom Lambert.

The meetings will be held all across the region through the summer. A schedule with dates, locations and an online form where you can share your vision can be found at ridemetro.org.

Editors Note:  Interviews with METRO representatives and additional information will be available at the June 27th open house.
