The transformation of METRO's bus system happened overnight - literally. On August 16, 2015, riders woke up to an entirely different bus network, one that promised improved weekend service, more frequency, and better connections.

METRO leaders knew it would be an enormous undertaking. So prep work and planning began a couple of years before the big day. Increasing talent and manpower within the agency to ensure the transition would be a successful one was a top priority.

"We knew that under the New Bus Network, our level of service was going to increase substantially," said METRO President and CEO, Tom Lambert. "Buses were going to run more frequently and on more routes. More weekend service was added. To accomplish this, we needed to hire more people."

Nearly 300 new employees including bus operators, mechanics, police officers and support staff were hired in advance of the transition.
