Qualified Disabled Veterans Save on METRO HOT Lanes With Discounted Toll

It's now a little easier for qualified disabled veterans to get around town.  In recognition of  those who have proudly served this country, METRO is currently offering qualified disabled veterans a discounted toll when using the High Occupancy Toll (HOT) lanes.

Before hopping on the lanes, veterans must register with METRO and display a qualifying license plate while driving.  The five lanes connect from every direction, giving easy access to single occupant commuters.

Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee joined METRO today in announcing the pilot program.

“Our veterans are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for our country.  As a United States Congresswoman, I believe it is important to provide the best quality of life for our veterans by providing access to jobs, healthcare, education, and a convenient way to travel.  I am glad to champion their cause for ease of mobility because they deserve respect and action.  Let me finally say when we first announced this service by Metro, I was pleased to invite Lance Corporal Richard G. Perez to the announcement.  Unfortunately, Lance Corporal Perez is no longer with us to celebrate this wonderful tribute to our veterans, but his fellow veterans will celebrate in his honor.  Thank you to the METRO Board and the City of Houston for working with us to honor our American heroes,” stated Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee.

This discount pilot program is a companion initiative to the METRO Veterans Pass (MVP) announced in April 2016.  MVP allows qualified disabled veterans to obtain a special pass and ride for free on METRORail, local bus and Park & Ride for free.
