Park the Car and Dump the Pump

On Thursday, Jun. 16, METRO will join with other public transit agencies across the country and participate in the 11th annual National Dump the Pump Day.

The slogan of this year’s event is: “Dump the Pump. Ride Public Transit.”

"This is the perfect opportunity for folks unfamiliar with public transit to give it a shot," said METRO President and CEO, Tom Lambert. "The New Bus Network offers frequent service and better connections, plus we've introduced new technology like a mobile ticketing app and next bus arrival texting which makes riding a breeze."

Riders can make the most out of their trip by planning their route in advance and by signing up for METRO service alerts. To learn more about routes, view METRO's interactive map.

Riding public transit saves money. The April APTA Transit Savings Report shows that a two person household that downsizes to one car can save – on the average – more than $9,000 a year.

Public transportation also helps communities grow and prosper. For every $1 invested in public transportation, $4 is returned in economic returns.

Sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), the National Dump the Pump Day encourages people to ride public transportation instead of driving a car.  Started in June 2006, this national day emphasizes that public transportation is a great travel option that also helps people save money, and is a cornerstone of local economies that helps communities to grow.
