March 24 - Community Health Fair 2012

Come join us for a Free Community health fair event for the whole family at the Hurst Public Library at 901 Precinct Line Rd. on Saturday, March 24 from 10 a.m. to noon. There will be free screenings, many health related vendors, games, prizes and more.

March 31 - EGGstravaganza 2012

Activities begin at 1 p.m. Egg Hunt starts at 2 p.m. Hurst Community Park, 601 Precinct Line Road (just south of Pipeline Road), FREE activities include: crafts, Hurst Clown Arounds, games, photos with Mr. Bunny and refreshments. Please…no pets.

April 2 - Hurst Citizens Fire Academy

See first hand the duties and responsibilities of firefighters. The Hurst Fire Department is now taking applications for the Hurst Citizens Fire Academy. The eleven-week class starts April 2 at 6:30 p.m. at Station 1. Learn about the organization and operation of the Hurst Fire Department, Fire Prevention, Disaster Preparedness, Emergency Medical Service, Arson Investigation, Firefighting tactics and much more. April 14 & 21 - Good Neighbor Days

Spring is just around the corner and so is the 15th Annual Good Neighbor Cleanup Event. The event will be held at the Bellaire Shopping Center on April 14 and 21. The event runs from 7 a.m. until noon both days.

Get Text Messages from the City - a New Feature with Our Emails

Citizens are constantly on the move and have come to expect to stay connected and receive information on their mobile devices.
Now you can receive information from the City of Hurst by text messaging. You will have to go online to manage your subscriber preferences by adding your wireless number (see the bottom of this bulletin). You will receive both a text message and an email bulletin.
Hurst through GovDelivery has partnered with other local and state agencies to offer expanded communications that may be of interest to you; Texas Commission on Environmental Equality, Texas Health and Human Services, Texas Dept of Parks and Wildlife, Texas DOT, City of Dallas, City of Richland Hills, and Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART). More agencies will be added in the future. As always you can choose the amount information to receive.
Most wireless service providers provide text messaging service. While there is no charge to sign up for wireless updates, your wireless service provider may charge per message. Check with your provider for details on additional costs.

North Tarrant Express

The NTE has a new planning tool, Beat the Traffic, on their website that will allow NTE facility users to view real-time traffic conditions (speeds, delays, lane closures, etc.), as well as set up customized alerts that will forward up-to-the-minute travel data to users in the case of major delays or incidents. A mobile version is also available.

Trout Stocking at Chisholm Park

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has partnered with the City of Hurst to provide a quality local fishing experience at Chisholm Park. The pond has excellent bank access while the park has many amenities including a large picnic pavilion, a kid’s playground, a water park, and restroom facilities. The TPWD Inland Fisheries Division provides fisheries management expertise and fish for regular stockings. The City of Hurst pays a fee for the stocked fish, and provides and maintains the facilities to ensure a quality fishing experience. A valid freshwater fishing license is required to fish at Chisholm Park unless the angler is 16 years old or younger. Fishing is allowed by pole and line only (no nets or other devices), with a limit of two fishing poles per person. There is no minimum length limit and a 5 fish daily bag limit per angler for both channel catfish and rainbow trout.

The Senior Center is open 5 days a week and has new hours.
Monday - Wednesday: 7 a.m. - 7 p.m.
Thursday: 7 a.m. - 9 p.m.
Friday: 7 a.m. - 7 p.m.
