Texas Cancer Registry: New Publications and Data Released

Dear Friends of the Texas Cancer Registry,

The Texas Cancer Registry is pleased to announce the release of new publications and data:

1. Cancer in Texas, 2012 report describes the burden of cancer on Texans, including new cases, deaths, and survival, and includes a list of supported cancer research studies. (Available for download at: http://www.dshs.state.tx.us/tcr/publications.shtm) The report will be available in hard copy in late June, upon request.

2. Tobacco and Cancer in Texas, 2012 report describes the burden of tobacco-related cancer on Texans, including new cases, deaths, time trends, and differences by race and ethnicity. (Available for download at: http://www.dshs.state.tx.us/tcr/publications.shtm) The report will be available in hard copy in late June, upon request.

3. Texas Cancer Registry Data Use: Publications & Research, March 2013 report lists peer-reviewed research publications, monographs and reports, and research studies that have used TCR data. (Available for download at: http://www.dshs.state.tx.us/tcr/default.shtm under the link “How Texas Data Are Being Used”.)

4. Our Web Query Tool has been updated with 1995 through 2010 data. (Available at http://www.dshs.state.tx.us/tcr/data.shtm)

5. Estimates of cases and deaths for 2013. (Available at: http://www.dshs.state.tx.us/tcr/data.shtm under the link “Expected Cases and Deaths”)

In addition, we are pleased to announce that state-wide data on Texas cases diagnosed in 1995-2009 were submitted in March 2013 to the CONCORD-2 global study of cancer survival. We were able to contribute our data due to NAACCR and CDC NPCR certification of the high quality of our data. We are especially pleased to contribute to CONCORD-2 because we were not able to contribute 1990-1994 state-wide data to the original CONCORD study.

For printed copies of “Cancer in Texas, 2012” or “Tobacco and Cancer in Texas, 2012”, please email us in late June at CancerData@dshs.state.tx.us or call 1(800) 252-8059.

Sincerely,

Anne M. Hakenewerth, M.S., Ph.D.
