February 10, 2025
February is American Heart Health Month and, as we know, what’s good for the heart is good for the brain! Alzheimer’s disease shares many of the same risk factors as heart disease. Plus, heart disease, stroke, and related complications can cause vascular dementia, which affects blood vessels in the brain and leads to changes in cognition and behavior. Treating modifiable risk factors like high blood pressure, diabetes, and high cholesterol can help prevent vascular dementia. Click here to learn more or find support.
Healthcare Provider Modules
The DSHS Alzheimer’s Disease Program (ADP) is excited to offer modules on how to screen, diagnose, coordinate care, and refer individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias (ADRD). These modules offer free continuing medical education and continuing nursing education credits! The courses are available on the HHS Learning Portal. Texas A&M Needs Assessment
The Texas A&M Health Science Center is conducting two related surveys to better understand the experiences and service needs of unpaid caregivers of people living with ADRD in Texas. They are interested in learning more about two specific audiences: 1) unpaid caregivers of people with ADRD, and 2) organizations that serve and/or support caregivers of people with ADRD. The surveys will take about 10 to 15 minutes to complete and are only available in English. To participate or to learn more, please visit the webpage.
