National Minority Health Awareness Month

April is National Minority Health Awareness Month. As the month draws to a close, the DSHS Immunization Program would like to share insights from those in the field.

DSHS has collaborated with providers to discuss the importance of delivering immunization services. Each provider can raise awareness and address challenges to vaccinating minority populations.

Please watch our "Embracing Vaccines for All Texans" videos as we work to empower the community through vaccine education and promote disease prevention efforts for historically underserved populations.

• Showcase: Embracing Vaccines for All Texans
• Password: EveryDoseMatters!

Please note: These videos are only intended for healthcare providers, local health departments and public health regions, not the general public.

After viewing the videos, please take the 1-minute survey to improve our educational materials.

Thank you for your efforts in providing vaccinations for all.

Register for V-Safe!

Providers can offer v-safe as a smartphone-based tool that checks in on patients after their COVID-19 vaccination. Patients can also enroll their dependents!

It takes just a few minutes to register and get started. All patients need is their smartphone and information about the COVID-19 vaccine doses they have received.

Enroll in v-safe: https://vsafe.cdc.gov/en/

Reminder: VaxTextSM COVID-19 Vaccination

VaxTextSM is a free text messaging platform that providers can offer to their patients. Patients can opt in to conveniently receive text message reminders to get their COVID-19 vaccine or a reminder for when they are overdue for their booster dose, in English or Spanish.

Patients will be asked for basic vaccination information so they can be provided reminders based on the correct vaccination schedule. The patient will also receive a prompt to sign up for v-safe.

Providers can offer VaxText as a booster dose reminder to patients.

Patients can text ENROLL to 1-833-VaxText (829-8398) to opt in to VaxTextSM.

ImmTrac2 Disaster Consents Reporting

Report COVID-19 immunizations within 24 hours after administration! This is a requirement by the CDC. This requirement is especially important for clients who are deceased before their client records are closed permanently by Vital Statistics.

What is a disaster?

Disasters have:

  • A definite beginning and ending date determined by a governmental authority
  • A specified geographic area such as a county or state
  • Specific AIMs (antivirals, immunizations, and/or medications) associated with the disaster
  • Optionally, may have priority groups. Some disasters require priority groups but not all do.

Disaster Information Retention Consents are also known as Disaster Consents. All disaster AIMs must be recorded in the registry, with or without a disaster consent. Disaster Consents allow the registry to keep a client’s disaster AIMs longer than 5 years after the disaster. If a disaster client has not signed a disaster consent within 5 years after the end of the disaster, their disaster AIM is deleted. Disaster consents only affect disaster AIMs.

Standard consents, ImmTrac Child or ImmTrac
Adult consents allow the registry to keep standard non-disaster immunizations only. Standard consents only affect standard immunizations.

For more information on Disaster Consents and Standard Consents please visit the User Training Webpage.

To find Consent Forms please visit the ImmTrac2 Registry Home Webpage.

Important! Update to the Cooler Return Process for Moderna Shipments

Beginning 4/29/22, providers will no longer receive UPS return labels for medium and large frozen Moderna shipping containers. UPS return labels will continue to be provided for small shipping containers, which represent more than 98% of all Moderna shipments, so that these containers may be returned and refurbished.

Please dispose of any medium or large frozen shipping containers and packing materials as you would any other waste.
