Therapeutics providers, thank you for your continued readership! This week, we do not have any new updates to share; rather, we’d like to take this opportunity to impart a few friendly therapeutics-related reminders and an “expert tip” to assist with your monoclonal antibody ordering.
HHS ASPR Webinar on COVID-19 Monoclonal Antibodies
On Friday, November 12th the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services’ Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness & Response (ASPR) will host the Monoclonals and More: Issues and Opportunities with Early COVID-19 Treatment Options webinar. The webinar will take place from 11:30-1:00 PM CT. Register here.
This webinar will review some of the most current recommendations for use of therapeutics. It is open to the public and will be recorded and posted on the ASPR TRACIE website. For more information, review the Monoclonals and More: Issues and Opportunities with Early COVID-19 Treatment Options flyer.
Edit Existing COVID-19 Therapeutics Order Requests
Providers who need to make changes to existing therapeutics order requests in the Vaccine Allocation & Ordering System (VAOS) are encouraged to edit existing order requests rather than create a second or third request during the same ordering cycle. Orders may be edited until marked as “exported.” Submitting one order request per cycle will help ensure that the provider order request is addressed in the most efficient fashion.
For details on editing existing therapeutics order requests in VAOS, please visit the View & Edit Service Requests section the COVID-19 Therapeutics Allocation Request job aid. For questions, please contact us by email at therapeutics@dshs.texas.gov or by phone at (833) 832-7068 (Option 0).
Therapeutics Ordering Timeline
The deadline for placing an order request each week for COVID-19 monoclonal antibody (mAb) therapeutics is Thursday at 5:00 p.m. Central Time.
Allocation considerations are based on a weekly cycle. A new allocation cycle begins each Friday. For your request to be considered for the upcoming cycle (Cycle 10, November 12 – November 18), your order must be placed in VAOS no later than Thursday, November 11th by 5:00 p.m. Central Time. Any requests received after this Thursday at 5:00 p.m. will be considered for the following allocation cycle (November 19 – November 25).
Please note that if you are not allotted any therapeutics in a given allocation cycle, you must submit another order request the following cycle; requests are not “carried over” from week to week.
Shelf-Life Extension of COVID-19 Monoclonal Antibodies Bamlanivimab, Etesevimab
On October 22nd the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced the authorization of an extension to the shelf-life from 12 months to 18 months for the refrigerated Eli Lilly monoclonal antibody, etesevimab, which is currently authorized for emergency use only when administered together with bamlanivimab.
This announcement was preceded by the FDA and ASPR’s August 20th announcement regarding the shelf-life extension for COVID-19 monoclonal antibody bamlanivimab from 12 months to 18 months.
For questions regarding these shelf-life extensions, please contact the manufacturer Eli Lilly at 1-800-LILLYRX (1-800-545-5979).
Order COVID-19 Therapeutic Etesevimab Alone by Email
If you are a therapeutics provider with COVID-19 therapeutic Bamlanivimab (BAM) on hand and wish to order etesevimab (ETE) to pair with it, please contact therapeutics@dshs.texas.gov to request orders of ETE.
Please note that at this time, there is no way to order ETE alone in VAOS; emailing is the only way to order ETE alone.
