COVID-19 Vaccine Recommendations: Additional vs Booster Doses

There are two distinct uses for an additional dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

Additional dose after an initial primary vaccine series: administration of an additional vaccine dose when the initial immune response following a primary vaccine series is likely to be insufficient.

Booster dose: a dose of vaccine administered when the initial sufficient immune response to a primary vaccine series is likely to have waned over time.

Currently a booster is not recommended for anyone in the US.

An additional dose is authorized by the FDA and recommended by the CDC.

Small Dose COVID-19 Vaccine Orders Update

As of Thursday, Sept. 9 at 5 p.m. Central Time, orders placed for less than a minimum pack size (small dose orders) of both Moderna and Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine will only be available to order in the following quantities: Moderna 0-70 doses (14-dose vials), Pfizer 0-450 doses (6-dose vials). Moderna 10-dose vials are only available to order by the full pack size of 100 doses while supplies last.

Keep in mind that Moderna COVID-19 vaccine must be ordered in multiples of 14 doses and Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine must be ordered in multiples of 6 doses.

Any orders of Moderna COVID-19 vaccine larger than 70 doses and fewer than 140 doses will be rounded to the nearest pack size; any orders of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine larger than 450 doses and fewer than 1170 doses will be upgraded to a full pack of 1170 doses.

Also note, due to the increase demand, if you order “Small Dose Orders” (as identified above) we cannot guarantee delivery within a 7-10 business day window. Your order may be delayed.
