The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) is excited to provide an Electronic Vaccine Inventory (EVI) system webinar on Thursday, June 27 from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm. EVI is a DSHS inventory system which allows TVFC and ASN sites to order and manage vaccine inventory online.
During the upcoming months, many of your patients will be visiting countries where they could be at-risk for diseases not usually found in the United States. As part of their pre-trip planning, they might come to you for the recommended vaccines for travel abroad and in the United States.
Early-bird registration is now open for the 2019 Texas Immunization Conference, taking place October 23-25, 2019, in Addison, Texas. The event will bring together immunization partners to share information, discuss current issues, and recommend strategies for improving immunization rates across Texas.
FluMist Update
DSHS will receive a very limited amount of FluMist® vaccine for the 2019-2020 flu season. Therefore, it will be necessary to substitute Fluarix® and Flucelvax® to sites that initially chose FluMist® during the first round of pre-book.
The American Academy of Pediatrics no longer will express a preference for the flu shot over nasal spray vaccine for children during the 2019-2020 flu season.
The recommendation comes after the Academy reviewed current data on vaccine coverage and effectiveness and flu season characteristics. It also considered the reformulation of the nasal spray vaccine.
You may place orders for the second round of the 2019-2020 influenza season, beginning on Monday, July 8, 2019. This influenza order will be delivered during the second round, starting after all first-round orders have been completely allocated.
The deadline for completing the second-round order process for additional influenza vaccine is 5:00 pm (CST), Monday, July 22, 2019.
Did You Know?
If you have multi-dose vials (MDVs) of vaccine that have expired, you should select ‘Unable to transfer MDV’ as the reason for loss if the vaccine is expired or ruined.
NOTE: Polio and some flu vaccines are the only vaccines in MDVs distributed by DSHS.
