Texans can register to be organ, tissue and eye donors online by visiting Donate Life - Texas Registry, or when they renew their driver license or personal identification card.
The Glenda Dawson Donate Life - Texas Registry is the state program that is responsible for managing the donor registry and state-funded donor education projects.
The program is funded by a $1 voluntary contribution that Texans can make when renewing their driver license or identification card, or when registering their motor vehicle.
In 2007, the Donor Education, Awareness, and Registry program was renamed the Glenda Dawson Donate Life – Texas Registry by the Texas legislature in memory of Representative Dawson's contributions to organ donation in the State of Texas.
Online Organ Donor Education
The Texas Department of State Health Services, along with subject matter experts, has created the Glenda Dawson Donate Life – Texas Online Education Program to inform and educate the state's health care professionals, attorneys, and medical and nursing students about:
- The laws governing anatomical gifts
- The procedures for becoming an organ, tissue, and eye donor
- The benefits of organ, tissue, and eye donation
The hour-long training also includes a short video of testimonials from organ donors, recipients, family members, and those on the waiting list to receive the gift of life. These web-based training modules are designed to reach those who are currently or could potentially play a supporting role in assisting people to become organ, tissue, and eye donors.
To view the course online, please visit Organ Donor Education Continuing Education credits are available for the medical provider training.
