Texas Business Bulletin | November 2020

Dear Texas Economic Development Stakeholders,

Each year in November, we celebrate and recognize veteran-owned businesses across the country during National Veterans Small Business Week. As this year's celebrations begin, we'd like to take a moment to thank our state's many veterans for their service to our country. Texas is home to more than 58 million military veterans, and home to more women veterans than any other state. Veteran-owned small businesses and entrepreneurs are incredibly important to our state's economy. Because of these hardworking men and women, that have chosen to pursue their freedom to aspire in Texas, our state remains the best in the nation to start a business. Additionally, Texas ranks #1 in the country for jobs created by Veteran women business owners.

We are also proud to be home to this year's National Small Business Person of the Year, San Antonio resident and veteran entrepreneur, Timothy Porter, recognized by the U.S. Small Business Administration. Thanks to small business leaders like Timothy, Texas continues to foster an environment that encourages entrepreneurs to innovate and grow. For more on veteran-owned businesses in Texas and resources/information on how to get started, we welcome you to visit our Veterans in Business webpage.

Data Services & Cybersecurity in Texas

Image

Texas excels in attracting large-scale data center operations and related companies and talent in cybersecurity, hosting, intelligence and more. The Lone Star State is a top destination for data centers for a number of reasons, including a central location in North America, abundant network bandwidth, a reliable energy grid and available and affordable space. In 2020, Texas was named the #1 state in the nation for data center growth. Additionally, the Dallas-Fort Worth area is ranked globally as the #3 data center market in the world.

Our state's leadership in cybersecurity attracts the brightest minds in the field to Texas. Increasingly known as "Cyber City U.S.A", San Antonio is home to the highest concentration of cyber and intelligence employees outside of the national capital region. In addition, Texas is home to two of the top 10 cybersecurity metros in the U.S. and holds the #2 spot on Business Facilities' list of cyber states. Texas' emphasis on collaboration and innovation, and a strong leadership position in technology, have made the state a premier location for cybersecurity and data center operations.
