Common misconceptions that discourage residents from joining a Neighborhood Crime Watch (NCW) include
- NCW groups are not effective and not make a real difference in their neighborhood
- NCW activity is risky and can invite retaliation from criminals or other neighbors
- NCW members are busy bodies
- NCW activities are time consuming
These misconceptions can erode participation and prevent neighbors from reaping the full benefits of a NCW program. So, what are the benefits of having a NCW group in your neighborhood?
- NCW groups are involved in keeping neighborhoods safe, keep blight at a minimum by fostering neighborhood pride, reporting street and lamp post damages, increases vigilance and reduces crime opportunities
- NCW training emphasizes non-confrontational approaches and promotes neighborhood bonding, getting to know one another and prioritizing everyone's safety.
- Misconception of prying in private lives. Instead NCW programs encourages observation (eyes and ears), awareness and communication with law enforcement.
- Watching out for neighborhood safety is not solely left up to one person. It is a team effort. By working together residents create a shared goal of working together, creating a sense of responsibility and gives residents peace of mind knowing others are watching out for them.

Coffee With a Cop - Events that Build Positive Partnerships
Coffee With a Cop (CWaC) events are a great way for law enforcement and community members to connect in a relaxed, informal setting. There’s no set agenda or formal topics — just friendly conversation and a chance to get to know each other without interruptions.
On Saturday, August 2nd, Torchy's Tacos Alliance hosted their very first Coffee With a Cop. Families enjoyed quality time with their favorite officers, and the kids especially loved getting their pictures taken with them.
The Fort Worth Police Department extends a big thank you to Torchy's Tacos for treating officers to a hot, delicious breakfast and helping make the event so special.
If you or your business is interested in hosting a future Coffee With a Cop, please reach out to your Neighborhood Police Officer or Crime Prevention Specialist.
