Friends and Neighbors,
First and foremost, I want to express my deepest gratitude to all the citizens of District 11 for re-electing me as your Councilwoman. I am truly honored to represent the incredible and diverse residents of our district. I am committed to continuing the work we've started: improving streets and essential infrastructure, fostering smart economic development, and enhancing public safety to ensure our community thrives. One of the most crucial initiatives for our city's future is the Fort Worth 2026 Bond Program. This program is vital, and I strongly encourage all Fort Worth residents, especially those in District 11, to get involved. These investments in infrastructure, parks, and public safety will directly impact the quality of life for everyone.
District 11 is slated to receive $81 million in proposed 2026 bond funding to support 19 projects. This significant investment will bring much-needed improvements to our area.
This Memorial Day, we remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the U.S. armed forces. As our city offices close in observance, let us also take a moment to honor their courage, dedication, and unwavering commitment to our nation's freedom. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.
Earth Month [April] may be over, but we can still be mindful of our choices when it comes to disposal, particularly recycling and hazardous waste. The City of Fort Worth understands that many residents want to dispose of waste properly but are not sure where to start. On June 5th, you can join District 11 and Frost Bank at Black Coffee to celebrate World Environment Day! We will provide free paper shredding, household hazardous waste disposal and electronic recycling services to anyone who visits us.
As summer quickly approaches, I hope you all have the opportunity to enjoy some outdoor time safely! Please remember to wear DEET bug spray and SPF sunblock when outdoors. Additionally, May is National Water Safety Month, with City pools opening, I urge everyone to observe safe water practices. The YMCA offers several swim and CPR training classes, which are excellent resources.

Ante todo, quiero expresar mi más profunda gratitud a todos los ciudadanos del Distrito 11 por haberme reelegido como su Concejal. More than 200 residents of the Fairhaven neighborhood in Southeast Fort Worth showed up to the Neighborhood Improvement Program’s Block Party on Saturday, May 3. EUGENE MCCRAY COMMUNITY CENTER WELCOMES NEW SUPERVISOR
Jake Hough brings a wealth of knowledge and a fresh perspective to the Eugene McCray Community Center. With a Master's Degree in Recreation and Parks Management and a solid background in various recreation roles in Maryland, including Recreation Coordinator and Center Director, Jake is eager to connect with our community and introduce innovative programs.
Jake’s vision for the Eugene McCray Community Center is to cultivate an inclusive, dynamic, and accessible haven where everyone feels safe, connected, and can simply enjoy themselves. To bring this vision to life, Jake plans to develop a comprehensive strategy outlining goals, programs, and crucial partnerships tailored to our community's unique interests and needs.
Building a strong sense of community is also a top priority. Jake envisions fostering belonging through special events, engaging volunteer opportunities, and the introduction of entirely new programs. To ensure the center truly reflects the diverse needs of our neighborhoods, Jake and his team have already launched surveys targeting our senior members for the Best Years Club (BYC) program and a general community feedback survey to assess the current state of the facility. Furthermore, a programming survey is underway to gather valuable insights on the types of events and activities residents would love to see at the center and the nearby park.
His favorite community center program is the Best Years Club for Seniors. He believes this program is vital in providing opportunities for lifelong learning, fostering a sense of purpose and community, and promoting both physical and mental well-being.
Outside of his dedication to recreation, Jake enjoys hiking and walking, as well as going to the movies, cooking, and spending quality time with his family.
District 11 is glad to have Jake leading our community center and look forward to the exciting future he envisions for our community!

ONE WEST NILE VIRUS SAMPLE CONFIRMED
Tarrant County Public Health has confirmed one positive West Nile Virus mosquito sample collected near 4621 Shackleford St., Fort Worth, TX 76119.
Please note that all other mosquito samples submitted to the Tarrant County Laboratory tested NEGATIVE for West Nile Virus.
Fort Worth's Environmental Services Department officers will continue to monitor the area. If there’s an issue with standing water at a location that is not city property, report it to the City’s Customer Care Center at 817-392-1234.
As always, protect yourselves from mosquito bites, wear DEET repellent, and drain standing water. For more information, visit the City's Environmental Services page.

RIVERSIDE COMMUNITY CENTER WELCOMES NEW SUPERVISOR
The Riverside Community Center is thrilled to introduce its new Supervisor, Nick Deitering, who brings a wealth of experience and a clear vision for enriching the lives of our community. Nick joins us from the private sector, where he served for four years as an Operator and Co-owner at We Rock the Spectrum gyms in Plano and Houston, TX. Prior to that, he dedicated several years to public service as a Parks Program Coordinator with the City of Kent, WA, overseeing a community center and coordinating various sports leagues and city-wide events.
In a recent interview, Nick shared his vision for the Riverside Community Center: "Our vision is to enrich the lives of our community through impactful, inclusive programming and exceptional service." He emphasized the importance of community input and collaboration with local stakeholders to extend the center's reach and engage residents through year-round events and initiatives in public spaces.
Nick is eager to foster a strong sense of community and belonging, both within the center and in the surrounding neighborhoods. He plans to be an engaged supervisor, building meaningful relationships and exploring collaborations with local schools, associations, and boards.
To ensure diverse programming, Nick highlighted the importance of direct community engagement. Initial feedback has been gathered through internal surveys, and future efforts will focus on broader community outreach to understand the evolving needs of all residents.
Safety and security are top priorities, with established protocols including mandatory check-ins, security camera monitoring, and regular staff inspections. The center also maintains a strong partnership with the local police department for added support.
A favorite program of Nick's is the Riverside Community Center’s boxing program, which inspires participants and even sees them compete locally and nationally. He looks forward to attending a match this fall to support a Riverside participant.
Outside of work, Nick cherishes his time as a father and enjoys weekend adventures with his daughter. He also enjoys playing golf and engaging in various outdoor activities.
District 11 looks forward to seeing the programming and growth of the Riverside Community Center under Nick's leadership!

2026 BOND NEED TO KNOW INFO
The City of Fort Worth is preparing for a May 2026 Bond Election.
What is a Bond?
A bond is a way for cities to fund larger, longer-range capital projects, such as roads, infrastructure and facilities that are too costly to pay for with the city’s annual operating budget
Before we make decisions on future investments in our city, we want to hear from you to better understand how the City can ensure your voice is heard and your priorities are reflected. More specifically, we want to learn in what ways, and how frequently, you prefer to be involved throughout the bond planning process.
The draft project list will be refined, based on public feedback. City Council will approve the final list in late 2025. A public education campaign will be held in Spring 2026 prior to the May 2026 bond election.

 MAY IS NATIONAL WATER SAFETY MONTH
National Water Safety Month is an annual awareness campaign celebrated each May to provide water safety education for children and adults ahead of the peak summer swim season.
First recognized in 2003, National Water Safety Month has continued to expand and is now celebrated by thousands of aquatics facilities, businesses, and professionals around the country.
With the promise of summer comes more time spent near and in the water. Here are some tips to keep your family safe while enjoying all types of water activities.
You can also visit your local YMCA for swim lessons, CPR training, and drowning prevention classes.

 SUMMER FOOD PROGRAM
1 in 4 children are food insecure and lack consistent access to enough food. Hungry children are more likely to have social and behavioral issues and face a more significant learning slide in summer that sets them back when they go to school in the fall.
Fort Worth Community Centers offer the Summer Food Service Program that is funded by the Texas Department of Agriculture. Meals will be available for free to children ages 1 to 18, and the child does not have to be enrolled in a program to qualify.

 FORT WORTH SURPASSES ONE MILLION RESIDENTS
Fort Worth’s population grew to 1,008,106, making Cowtown the 11th-largest city in the United States, according to the U.S. Census Bureau’s latest data.
Fort Worth has surpassed the population of 13th-ranked Austin by more than 15,000 people. Fort Worth is now the fourth-largest city in Texas, trailing Houston, San Antonio and Dallas. The population of Fort Worth trails 10th-ranked Jacksonville by fewer than 2,000 people.

 FORT WORTH POOLS TO OPEN MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND
Enjoy the city's swimming pools and splash pad this Memorial Day weekend!
The pools will be open on Saturdays and Sundays from May 24th to 26th (including the Monday holiday), May 31st to June 1st, and June 7th to 8th.
The full summer season will run from June 10th to August 10th (closed Mondays). After the season ends, the pools will be open only on weekends starting August 16th through Labor Day, September 1st. Hours will be from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

Mayor Mattie Parker, eight returning City Councilmembers and one newly elected City Councilmember were sworn in on Tuesday, May 13, during a special-called City Council meeting to adopt a resolution to officially accept the results of the May 3 election.

 FIREWORKS ARE ILLEGAL IN FORT WORTH
With Memorial Day right around the bend and the Fourth of July following close behind, we want to remind Fort Worth to Leave the Show to the Pros this year.
With thousands of fireworks injuries treated yearly in hospital emergency rooms, often leaving permanent damage to eyes, hands, and the face, the City of Fort Worth and the Fort Worth Police and Fire Departments encourage everyone to leave the fireworks shows to the pros. It's safer, and it's also the law.
So what is the law?
- Remember, other than City permitted firework shows, FIREWORKS ARE ILLEGAL IN FORT WORTH; HAVING OR SETTING THEM OFF WILL RESULT IN A HEFTY FINE
- Illegal fireworks are punishable by law, and there is up to a $2,000 fine.
- What goes up must come down; ANY CELEBRATORY GUNFIRE WILL RESULT IN JAIL TIME
Who do I call?
Please DO NOT CALL 9-1-1 to report fireworks
Instead:
We want everyone to enjoy their holidays and to celebrate accordingly, but to do so in a safe and respectful way. We love fireworks as much as the next police social media account, but our priority will always be the safety and well being of Fort Worth and our community.

Con el Día de los Caídos a la vuelta de la esquina y el Cuatro de Julio siguiéndonos de cerca, queremos recordar a Fort Worth que Deje el Espectáculo a los Profesionales este año.

CITY CALL CENTER
Fort Worth has added 311 to the list of ways to contact the City Call Center.
Residents are now able to call either 311 or the 10-digit number 817-392-1234 to reach City services. 311, a free nonemergency line, can only be dialed from a wireless device and must called from within Fort Worth city limits.
