Happy 175th Birthday Fort Worth!
City leadership aims to ensure the safety of elementary and middle school-age children crossing intersections in Fort Worth.
City Council unanimously increased the residential homestead exemption for elderly and disabled residents on Tuesday.
Residents qualifying for these tax exemptions will now be able to reduce their appraised valuation of a residence by $80,000 when figuring property taxes. Since 2023, property owners have been able to deduct $60,000.
This marks the second consecutive year that the City has taken steps to increase the exemption. It's important to note that in Texas, there is no maximum exemption for elderly and disabled homeowners.
The Fort Worth Fire Department is taking over MedStar. The longtime EMS provider is being dissolved, and employees will now be part of the fire department. The result would be an improvement in response times by as much as 5½ minutes, better resourcing, a sustainable workload for paramedics and EMTs, and long-term, sound financial health.

I am proud to attend the rolling memorial, Beyond the Call of Duty End of Watch Ride to Remember Tour 2023, to honor the life of Sergeant Jon Jenson and other fallen officers.

Concrete Batch Plant: Updates and Information
- The deadline to comment on The Organic Recycler (TOR) permit #174858 was Midnight, Wednesday, April 17, 2024.
- The TCEQ will incorporate the new EPA Standards for PM 2.5 on May 8. The TOR facility has revised its permit application to meet the new standards.
-
Dan Patrick's recent letter to TCEQ was about Cement Kilns, not concrete batch plants; as such, it does not directly apply. While Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick's letter focuses on cement kilns (rather than concrete batch plants), it could also activate greater conversations around other permits, like concrete batch plants. Please contact your state representative. We remain hopeful.
- There was a strong showing at the TCEQ Public Meeting and quality online comments from constituents.
- We know TCEQ is currently responding to 600+ comments.
- TCEQ will decide on the permit after responding to all public comments. No indication was given as to when that would occur. This could take months.
- The City of Fort Worth is communicating with TOR and discussing processes and options.
