ECI Behavior Series and Autism Best Practices Trainings
The Health and Human Services Commission Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) program has released new training resources to support early childhood educators. Data shows a growing need for additional educational opportunities related to behavior management. These webinars focus on this need, as well as on how to create inclusive environments for neurodiverse and divergent children.
Behavior Series
Please watch these trainings in order as the content builds throughout the series.
The Functions of Behavior – Learn why challenging behavior occurs by examining the context around behavior. The events before and after behavior occurs help inform why one may engage in that behavior, leading to four primary functions, or reasons, for behavior. These functions determine how to address it.
Teaching New Skills – Challenging behavior often communicates a message. Learn how to teach safer and more effective communication as well as the positive behavior skills that will help children navigate life in social settings.
Before and After Challenging Behavior – Learn how to build a supportive environment to promote positive behaviors and react to challenging behavior in the moment, as well as how to work with caregivers to best support their needs when applying behavioral strategies from all three presentations.
Recognize common signs of autism in young children as well as diagnostic criteria. Learn how to apply effective strategies for engaging and motivating very young children with autism, as well as simple tactics for responding to challenging behavior.
