eTAG Update (Late 2017)

Texas Department of Motor Vehicles

Please review and distribute as appropriate.

The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) will update the eTAG system (the system used for Buyer Tags) in late 2017.

This change will improve the way eTAG works and move it into webDEALER (the title application system).

What Does This Mean For You?

  • webDEALER will become the system to work from for the creation of Buyer Tags (or other tags).
    • ALL eTAG users will log in to webDEALER with their current eTAG username and password to access eTAG even if they have not previously used the webDEALER system.
      • NOTE: Your username and password will not change.
    • ALL webDEALER users will log in to webDEALER as usual.
    • If you use both webDEALER and eTAG, you will be able to create title applications and issue Buyer Tags (or other tags) without having to log into different systems.
  • Buyer Tags for out of state purchasers may be paid for online by credit card.
  • All tags printed through eTAG will have improved security features.

The TxDMV will provide more information on these changes and future training in the coming weeks.

Thank you,

Jeremiah Kuntz, Director
Vehicle Titles and Registration Division
