Emergency Preparedness: Hurricane Harvey

Good morning,

The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) encourages all county staff to prioritize personal safety in advance of Hurricane Harvey. Counties concerned about flooding or rain damage may weatherize and treat RTS equipment in the same fashion as county owned equipment.  County staff are authorized to move RTS equipment as needed before, during and after the impending weather event.  Basic instructions and safeguards can be found below:

All equipment should be removed from the ground and placed on an elevated surface. As an option the equipment can be weatherized by covering or encasing it in plastic.

Equipment should be shut down in the following order and manner:

  • Printer – by turning off the power switch
  • PC – by going to Start > chose Shutdown
  • Router – if the router has a power switch turn it off. If there is no power switch then disconnect the power supply from the router

When county staff return to work to start business again please instruct them to power on equipment in the following order:

  • Router – if the router has a power switch turn it on. If there is no power switch then connect the power supply to the router
  • PC – by pressing the power switch
  • Printer – by turning on the power switch
