Contractors Donate Children’s Play Area, Now Open at

Dallas Love Field

DALLAS – On Friday, Oct. 10, Dallas Love Field opened “Lil’ Love Lounge,” a play/rest area for young passengers with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The lounge was 100 percent donated by contractors hired for renovation work at the airport, including prime contractor for the Love Field Modernization Program (LFMP), Hensel Phelps Construction Co.

Lil’ Love Lounge, located next to Creative Kids retail store, provides kid-size airplanes, padded floors made from recycled rubber, and colorful décor to make the area safe and comfortable for Love Field passengers ages five to 11.

During the ceremony, Mark Duebner Dallas’ aviation director and Michael Orlowski Hensel Phelps’ operations manager, each discussed the airport’s connection to the community and spreading love throughout Dallas – including children. To emphasize creating a comfortable area for children at Love Field, Duebner and Orlowski brought their daughters to the ribbon cutting ceremony, giving them a chance to experience Lil’ Love Lounge.

“We wanted a special place where children can play and be themselves at Love Field,” Duebner said.

Hensel Phelps, who has been nationally recognized for their community involvement and commitment to diversity, has played a significant role in the success of the LFMP, awarding more than $67 million worth of contracts to local M/WBEs.

“Being members of the community and working with airports around the country, Hensel Phelps wanted to give back in a way that inspires young passengers to have a love for travel,” Orlowski said. “With the help of our subcontractors and families, the Lil’ Love Lounge will enhance the experience of Dallas travelers for years to come.“

Other donors for the lounge include the following Love Field contractors:

  • Hensel Phelps Construction Co., prime contractor for the LFMP
  • KavPlan LLC, woman-owned aviation planning and programming firm
  • El Creative, Inc., local minority-owned design and marketing firm
  • ASI, signage firm

  • JMEG LP, electrical and construction firm

About the Love Field Modernization Program

The Love Field Modernization Program (LFMP) began in 2009 as an ongoing effort to transform Dallas Love Field into one of the nation’s premier, modern and efficient airport facilities, while maintaining the convenience and quality service Love Field currently offers. Since the program began, the airport has opened a new 20-gate concourse, expanded the main lobby space, opened a new Ticketing/Check-in and Baggage Claim Hall, and opened a variety of food and retail concessions. The program completes on Oct. 13 with the lifting of the Wright Amendment, allowing non-stop flights to and from Love Field.
