Grand opening nears for an iconic Oak Cliff Restaurant;
Rudy’s Chicken will open in a new and improved building

Dallas - On May 8, one of Oak Cliff’s signature destinations will open in a new location. But fans of Rudy’s Chicken won’t have to go far, as the restaurant will serve customers in a new building just a few yards away from their current location.  City Councilmember Dwaine R. Caraway is looking forward to May 8.

“I’m looking forward to that day because the new Rudy’s Chicken will be open for business,” Caraway said. “I’m so proud of my fellow Council members for joining together to make this happen.
Rudy’s is an anchor of the community,” said Caraway, who represents part of the Lancaster Corridor.

For more than 20 years, Rudy’s Chicken at 3115 S. Lancaster has been a fixture in Caraway’s District. At 1,600 square-feet, the new double drive-through facility will be 25 percent larger than the current location.

Two
drive-thru windows and two walk up windows will mean faster service and better traffic flow.  Customers will be able to enter and exit from both Lancaster Road and Corning Avenue, alleviating traffic issues that have popped up due to the restaurant’s popularity.

“Rudy’s will be able to serve people more efficiently and we won’t have so many cars lined up in the street,” said Caraway. “I think folks will really like it, because it means they won’t have to wait so long for this great chicken.”

Under construction since October, the project is part of an effort to improve the Lancaster Corridor, which includes the V.A. Hospital, Urban League, and DISD’s Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy. The City will tear down the current building after May 8 to make way for commercial development.

“Revitalizing the Lancaster Corridor is absolutely critical in our effort to transform southern Dallas,” Caraway said. “Rudy’s Chicken is one part of that effort, but it’s a very important part.”
