City of Dallas participating in National Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation
Dallas - The City of Dallas announced today that it is participating in the Wyland Foundation’s National Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation.
“The City of Dallas has a proud history of water conservation efforts, and we are pleased to participate in the 2014 National Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation,” said Mayor Mike Rawlings. “As we approach summer, we urge Dallas residents to actively engage in saving water and teach their friends and neighbors how they can save water as well.”
Residents who wish to participate can visit www.mywaterpledge.com and make a series of pledges to conserve water on behalf of Dallas. Cities with the highest percentage of residents taking the challenge in their population category are entered into drawings for hundreds of eco-friendly prizes, including home improvement gift cards, home irrigation equipment, and the grand prize: a Toyota Prius Plug-In. The challenge also features additional resources for residents to take their commitment of conservation even further, from regional water and energy resource issues to home cost saving tips.
Additionally, Dallas residents are encouraged to visit the City of Dallas Water Utilities’ website, www.savedallaswater.com. The site offers practical tips for saving water indoors, saving water outdoors, information on water-wise landscaping, and information on lowering water bills. Residents can also find information about other programs offered by the city, such as free irrigation system check-ups, free toilet replacements and minor plumbing repair for low to moderate income households.
The National Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation, now in its third year, is held every April. It has become widely recognized as one of the most engaging outreach tools designed for cities and water utilities to encourage water conservation.
