Press conference will kickoff Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. birthday;
Events will be held Jan. 17-18 across the city
What: The MLK Center will host a press conference to kick off the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday celebration weekend. Activities celebrating Dr. King’s life and legacy will include a sneak preview of the new MLK Jr. Center, Dallas Museum, a candle lighting ceremony, awards banquet, silent auction, March and parade, health and information fair and Affordable Care Act enrollment. All activities are free except for the awards banquet.

Noon to 3 p.m. Wednesday Jan. 15 – MLK Jr. Center- Dallas Museum and Ribbon Cutting, sneak preview - 2922 MLK Blvd.
The MLK Jr. Center- Dallas museum will house a collection of original speeches, books, spoken word, art and artifacts to inspire dream keepers and change agents. This will be a place for people to discover and reconnect with the power of the Civil Rights Movement in America during the life and times of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
This event is organized by the MLK Jr. Center leadership team: Lois Lilly, Emma Rodgers, Ann Ervin, Akwete Tyehimba, Adjowa Hogue, and John Howard.

The march will assemble at City Hall Plaza to Ervay Street, south to MLK Jr. Blvd., past the MLK Complex to 2922 MLK Jr. Blvd. Participants will include bands, floats, community/civic groups, and churches and a live broadcast featuring Radio One, 97.9FM, and 94.5FM radio personalities.
