Dallas Symphony Orchestra, WRR Announce 2013-2014 Schedule of Concert Broadcasts

Concerts recorded live at the Meyerson Symphony Center

Nineteen broadcasts from November 4, 2013 to July 21, 2014 feature classical, pops and holiday programs

Dallas, TX (November 1, 2013) – The Dallas Symphony Orchestra (DSO) and radio station WRR Classical 101 (101.1 FM) announce DSO concert broadcasts for the 2013-2014 season. Beginning Monday, November 4, 2013, the DSO and WRR will partner to produce and air broadcasts of DSO concerts recorded live at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center.

Each of the 16 concerts from the 2013-2014 Texas Instruments Classical Series are scheduled to be broadcast, including performances conducted by DSO Music Director Jaap van Zweden featuring world-renowned guest soloists such as Joshua Bell, Yefim Bronfman, Hélène Grimaud, Matthias Goerne and DSO Co-Concertmasters Alexander Kerr and Nathan Olson. Other concert broadcasts feature rising international stars of the classical music world such as pianists Jan Lisiecki and Anna Fedorova. In addition, two DSO Pops series performances will air, including An Evening of Gershwin led by the DSO’s Principal Pops Conductor Jeff Tyzik.

Concerts will be broadcast by WRR and streamed online at www.wrr101.com at 8:00 p.m. on the first and third Monday of every month beginning November 4, 2013 through Monday, July 21, 2014. The John F. Kennedy Memorial Concert will air on December 2, 2013, the first Monday broadcast after the performances. An additional holiday broadcast is scheduled on Monday, December 23, 2013. The broadcasts will include short interviews with conductors and guest soloists who give background about the music. Victor Marshall will produce the concert broadcasts. The sound engineers for the broadcast recordings are George Gilliam and Roy Cherryhomes.

“We are happy to again be partnering with WRR to bring beautiful music and powerful performances by Music Director Jaap van Zweden and the DSO to the widest possible audience.” said Dallas Symphony Orchestra President and CEO Jonathan Martin. “We know that not everyone can attend the shows in person, and the broadcasts give everyone a chance to enjoy the excitement the DSO creates in the Meyerson.”

“WRR Classical 101 and the Dallas Symphony Orchestra continue a tradition that goes back over 50 years”, says WRR’s Interim General Manager David Fisher, “and we’re honored to showcase the great talent Dallas has to offer to our listeners worldwide.”
