Harambee: Celebrate New Hope in the 21st Century 

Event planned for October 26

 

What:              The 39th Annual Harambee Festival- Harambee is an East African Swahili word meaning “Let’s Pull Together.” The Harambee Festival, an African- American Cultural event created to give children a cultural alternative to Halloween, has become a treasured fall tradition connecting thousands of young people to their African culture and community.

This year’s theme is “Harambee: Celebrate New Hope in the 21st Century.”

Enjoy positive hip-hop, gospel, jazz, spoken word, storytelling, African drumming, and dance performances from local and national artists.

Enjoy great shopping and food in the Harambee African Marketplace

The Arthello Beck, Jr. Watoto (children’s) Village will provide youth entertainment, fun, educational games, face painting, and safety & health information.

There will be opportunities to meet the Democratic and Republican Party candidates for 2014 and register to vote

When:             Saturday, October 26, 2013 from 10:00AM to 6:00PM

Where:            The Martin Luther King Community Center, located at 2922 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd., in the beautiful South Dallas community.                

Who:               Churches, organizations, businesses, students, families, elected officials and anyone ready for a non-stop day of free fun and cultural education.
