City of Dallas to rename part of Cedar Springs Road “Herb Kelleher Way”

DALLAS – Dallas Love Field will rename a portion of Cedar Springs Road in honor of Herb Kelleher, Founder and Chairman Emeritus of Southwest Airlines. “Herb Kelleher Way” will begin at Mockingbird Lane and continue to the Love Field Terminal Building. The sign will be unveiled at a ceremony in the Danny L. Bruce Flag Plaza at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 13.

Southwest Airlines began service under the name Air Southwest with three Boeing 737’s serving three Texas cities. The company was based in Dallas and served Houston and San Antonio, which Kelleher referred to as the triangle. Since then, the business Kelleher started with just three aircraft in three cities today includes 72 cities nationwide and more than 500 aircraft in service at the end of 2010.

Southwest’s low frills service, low fares to destinations across the country and exceptional customer service has helped make the airline a national leader in the transportation industry.
