Southern Dallas Development Selected for Free Mile-Long Transit Tunnel
The University Hills development located in southern Dallas was chosen by The Boring Company (TBC) as one of three winners of its Tunnel Vision Challenge. The competition invited individuals, companies, and governments to submit proposals for a one-mile-long tunnel to be fully funded by TBC. 487 submissions were evaluated on usefulness, stakeholder engagement, and technical, economic, and regulatory feasibility. Hoque Global—developer for University Hills—proposed a mile-long underground tunnel that would link the mixed-use University Hills site to the UNT Dallas DART station.
The Boring Company will next conduct due diligence. If the project is feasible, TBC will privately fund construction, providing a transit tunnel that bypasses surface traffic and enhances mobility in southern Dallas.

Prep Kitchens, the largest provider of commercial and coworking kitchen spaces in the U.S., now has a Dallas location operating on Regal Row near Love Field. Prep Kitchens Dallas is the first As-of-Right tax abatement project to begin operations. In 2023, As-of-Right tax abatements were authorized in the Economic Development Policy by the City of Dallas to activate real estate development and job creation in underserved areas by offering temporary tax abatements of net new real property or business personal property taxes. Prep Kitchens Dallas will benefit from a 10-year, 90% real property abatement under the City's As-of-Right tax abatement program.
Prep Kitchens Dallas is over 59,000-square-feet and offers more than 50 permit-ready private kitchens, shared kitchen stations, and mobile food service support, providing flexible space for caterers, bakers, packaged food manufacturers, and meal prep businesses. Tenants will benefit from turnkey, fully licensed kitchens, cold and dry storage, business support services, and 24/7 access. This project strengthens the local food ecosystem, supports job creation, and expands opportunities for entrepreneurs to launch and scale culinary businesses in Dallas.
