Better Block Pleasant Grove Basketball Court

Better Block Pleasant Grove

With the support of District 5 Council Member Jaime Resendez, the Office of Economic Development partnered with Better Block and the Inspired Vision Compassion Center to engage the community and reimagine a commercial parking lot in Pleasant Grove at the southwest corner of Bruton Road and Masters Drive. The improved space was revealed to the community on November 18 and celebrated with a community event with local vendors and artists.

Groundbreaking At Bonton Farms

Bonton Farms Groundbreaking

On December 7, 2023 Bonton Farms broke ground on the new 11,000-square-foot wellness center, public meeting room, and financial literacy and education facility. The City of Dallas Office of Economic Development negotiated a Community Development grant agreement in the amount of $850,000. This development addresses the systemic barriers Bonton residents face and is projected to serve more than 400 residents per year in the neighborhood and surrounding areas with healthcare, financial services, and access to healthy food.

Texas Economic Overview

The Texas economy is the 8th largest economy in the world, valued at more than $2.4 trillion (2022 GDP). Dallas-Fort Worth output makes up 36% of the total state’s GDP. If Dallas were a country, its GDP output would rank 21st in the world. Texas added the most jobs in the nation over the last year, with an additional 391,500 jobs from October 2022 to October 2023. Texas jobs have reached a new historic high with the largest labor force ever in the state’s history at a record 15,162,100. The October unemployment rate holds steady at 4.1% for the state of Texas, which Dallas bests at 3.7%. State sales tax revenue for October totaled $3.8 billion.
