Congratulations on Your New Family Member!
Thank you for opening your heart and home to [ANIMALNAME]!
We are following up to see how [Animal Name] is settling into their new home. We're here to help should you need training support, advice on feeding or care, or anything else as you and [ANIMAL NAME] navigate the transition from shelter to home. A digital version of our welcome home package can be found ____.
If you are having concerns about your new pet and need support, or if you just want to give us an update, reach out to us at DASadopt@dallascityhall.com. We would love to hear from you. And, if you have a photo of your new companion, we'd love to see it! We'll be glad to share it with our staff and volunteers.
Would you please take 2 minutes to fill out our adopter survey to help us continue to improve the adopter experience and save more lives? Please include your pet's animal number ([ANIMALID]) on the survey.

Every dog has potential! Unlock that potential by teaching them new tricks and skills. Training your dog works their brain and tires them out! |

Dogs see the world through their nose. Sniffing not only calms an over-excited dog, but it also exercises their brain. Let them Sniff! |

Does your new pet appear nervous, aloof, or overly tired? Are they refusing food or water? This is completely normal, and it may take up to 3 days for your new pet to feel at ease. During this time, make sure your dog or cat has a safe zone where they can go to if they are feeling overwhelmed. Don't force your new pet to interact with the rest of the family if they don't seem ready. Give them space and time. |
|
Over the first three weeks, create a routine for you and your new pet. Have a scheduled time when you take your walk, potty breaks, meal time, and play time. The sooner your pet learns the routine, the sooner they will feel comfortable with their new family. |
