Dallas City Council Approves City's first comprehensive Racial Equity Plan

Dear Community Partners,

We hope this message finds you safe and well. First and foremost, the entire Office of Equity and Inclusion would like to extend our appreciation for your continuous partnership and ever-present support to advance equity.

Secondly, it is an honor and proud moment for Dallas, on August 24, 2022, the Dallas City Council approved the first comprehensive Racial Equity Plan (REP).

The City now has in place a strategic framework that outlines short-, mid-, and longer-term goals to address the racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic disparities communities face.

Following the adoption of the Racial Equity Plan, here are the next steps:

  1. Publish the August 24, 2022, adopted Racial Equity Plan inclusive of the City’s top five Languages.
  2. Continuous Community Engagement: The next phase of community engagement will be to build out the Big Audacious Goals and how the REP’s Action Targets and goals will be developed and potentially funded.

    Upcoming engagement is scheduled for:

    Thursday, September 8, 2022 @ 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at West Dallas Multipurpose Center, 2828 Fish Trap Road, Dallas, TX 75212.

    Saturday, September 10, 2022 @ 11:00 a.m. – 12 noon at Hampton-Illinois Branch Library, 2951 S. Hampton Road, Dallas, TX 75224.

Spanish interpretation will be made available at the meetings. For requesting interpretation in other languages, please email Christina da Silva at christina.dasilva@dallas.gov or call 469-873-9710 within 24 hours prior to the meeting.
  3.  Work with City departments to begin implementing their progress measures and building out the public facing Racial Equity Dashboard.
  4. Continue to operationalize the work of equity across City government and partner with other anchor organizations.

We need your insight and input at every phase of the community engagement process. If you would like to learn more about the Plan, visit the Office of Equity and Inclusion’s website here.

If you are interested in hosting or participating in a community engagement event, email equity@dallas.gov or check the City Calendar. The draft Racial Equity Plan in English and Spanish is on the OEI webpage; final translation in Dallas’ top five languages will be added to bit.ly/DallasREP before the end of the October.

We look forward to your continued support, please let us know how we can be of further assistance or if you have any questions. Thank you for all you do to advance equity.

Best,

Office of Equity and Inclusion
