Town Hall scheduled Dec 10 for Businesses Affected by Oct 20th Storms

Dallas, TX — Council Member Omar Narvaez and his colleagues Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Adam McGough, Council Members Jennifer Gates, and Lee M. Kleinman are hosting a Town Hall for business owners affected by the October 20th storm. The town hall is scheduled at 10 am on Tuesday, December 10 at Ricchi Towers, 8585 N. Stemmons Fwy.

“We want to share information about resources with businesses in the City of Dallas that were affected by the October 20th storm," said Council Member Omar Narvaez, District 6. "We hope to make it easier for businesses to access resources and get answers to some of the questions that they may have.”

Representatives from City of Dallas will be present with information along with Mr. Susheel Kumar, public information officer, of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). The SBA currently has a center open at the Bachman Branch Library that assists individuals with the application process for the SBA disaster loan program.

“This is an opportunity for local businesses to engage the SBA and learn about business-specific tornado relief programs,” said Council Member Lee Kleinman, District 11.

Businesses of all sizes and private nonprofit organizations may borrow up to $2 million to repair or replace damaged or destroyed real estate, machinery and equipment, inventory and other business assets. Disaster loans up to $200,000 are available to homeowners to repair or replace damaged or destroyed real estate. Homeowners and renters are eligible for up to $40,000 to repair or replace damaged or destroyed personal property.

“We are into the recovery phase of the disaster cycle,” said Michael Mendoza, chief of Economic Development and Neighborhood Services. “This phase takes us into the restoration and construction of our neighborhoods. Our aim is to leverage the City’s voice and development tools to support residents as they strive to get back into their homes, schools, and jobs.”
