Park and Recreation unveils its 17th sprayground at Kleberg Rylie Park
(DALLAS) – Dallas Park and Recreation celebrates the opening of its 17th sprayground with a kid-friendly celebration at 10 a.m. August 5 at Kleberg-Rylie Park, 1515 Edd Road. Dallas City Council member Tennell Atkins will join park officials to welcome residents and give remarks before a community ribboncutting.
“This is a wonderful quality of life addition for residents to enjoy and I’m proud to be part of the team that helped bring this to the community,” said council member Atkins.
Dallas’ latest cool solution to rising temperatures is the sixth sprayground park and recreation has constructed in less than a year. It was designed and built by Dunaway Associates and Kraftsman Commercial Playgrounds and Waterparks. Park and recreation facilities, construction and maintenance employees did the utility work and installed the irrigation system and landscaping. Almost $1.5M from the 2017 bond program was allocated for the Kleberg design and construction.
The Kleberg-Rylie sprayground is 3,000 square feet of fun and features colorful and interactive water-play gadgets especially designed for children of all ages and play abilities. Non-slip surfaces and easy-to-reach water toys make the sprayground enjoyable for those with physical disabilities. Shaded picnic areas around the sprayground are ideal for family gatherings and picnics.
"We are thrilled about this addition to our aquatics program and park. In 2013, The City of Dallas Park and Recreation Board adopted the Aquatic Facilities Master Plan that included recommendations for the construction of swimming pools and spraygrounds throughout the city to serve all of our citizens,” said Willis C. Winters, director, Dallas Park and Recreation Department.
Popular with children and families, the spraygrounds are free and operate daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. until late September. For locations and hours of operation, visit DallasParks.org.
