City of Dallas files suit against Blue Star Recycling

Dallas – On Thursday, December 13, 2018, Dallas Environmental Quality & Sustainability, Dallas Water Utilities, and the Dallas Marshal’s Office conducted an inspection at Blue Star Recycling, located at the 9500 block of S. Central Expressway.

The inspection team observed large-scale illegal dumping and industrial waste being dumped into the City’s storm sewer system in violation of the City’s stormwater permitting requirements.

Due to these severe issues and risk to the environment, the City Attorney’s Office filed a lawsuit seeking a temporary restraining order with Dallas County Courts. We further understand the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) is continuing its investigation which began on October 9, 2018, to understand whether the site is recycling materials at all.

We will continue to seek relief as appropriate and we applaud the Dallas resident that brought this issue to our attention. We encourage residents to dial 311 or download and use the OurDallas mobile app to report violations.
