City of Dallas receives the first TXU Energy Leadership Award for Sustainability

 

Dallas – TXU Energy recognized four North Texas companies and the City of Dallas in the inaugural year of its TXU Energy Leadership Award Program. This new program recognizes corporate and nonprofit leaders in various energy-related categories including sustainability, innovation, energy, management, community, and engagement.

The five North Texas winners are: 

• Leadership in Sustainability, City of Dallas
• Leadership in Innovation, Cinemark
• Leadership in Energy Management, Tyler Junior College
• Leadership in Community, Meals on Wheels of Tarrant County
• Leadership in Engagement, Huffines Auto Dealerships

Errick Thompson, director of Building Services and James McGuire, director of the Office of Environmental Quality and Sustainability accepted the award on behalf of the City of Dallas at the TXU Energy Summit held in Arlington.

“Dallas is known as a municipal leader in sustainability,” Thompson said, “Concern for the environment and resource conservation are part of the culture of the organization. Operating over 13 million square feet of building space requires a lot of electricity, but thanks to City leadership, 100% of that energy is renewable and has been for the last few years.”

Dallas’ renewable energy purchases made it a national leader in green energy. “I am proud of the City of Dallas’ second-place national ranking in the U.S. EPA’s Green Power Partnership list and all of the energy efficiency efforts undertaken by the City’s Building Services Department,” McGuire continues, “I look forward to continuing our partnership with them to make additional impacts on a community-wide basis.”
