Dallas Park and Recreation Hosts Historically Black Colleges and Universities College Fair Saturday

HBCU

High school juniors and seniors can access time-saving tips from admission officials representing 20 of the nation's most prominent historically black colleges and universities at a free expo November 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Beckley-Saner Recreation Center, 114 W. Hobson.

The Historically Black Colleges and Universities 2017 College Fair is an opportunity to celebrate high school students that have decided to further their education and attend college. Pre-registration is appreciated and available online at dallashbcu17.eventbrite.com.

This is the third year Dallas Park and Recreation Department has hosted the fair for prospective students to speak with college reps and alumni and get a glimpse into what to expect after high school.

Free financial aid TASFA/FASA and tax preparation workshops and one-on-one interactions will help future scholars understand college life, admission essays, applications, standardized entrance tests. Parents concerned about college costs can sit in on sessions detailing how and where to get scholarships, grants, loans and work-study funds.

In addition to workshops, families can enjoy Lincoln High school band performances, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and K104 Radio personalities along with food trucks, give-a-ways and swags bags for the first 500 students who attend.

Event partners are Education is Freedom, Southern Dallas Business and Living Magazine, All Stars Project of Dallas, Mayor’s Star Council, Dallas Area Rapid Transit, It’s Not Complicated Tutoring, K104 Radio and City of Dallas Police Department.
