Juneteenth Economic Forum and Marketplace Expo

Staff members from the City’s Office of Economic Development (ECO) recently played a supporting role in the first annual Juneteenth Economic Forum and Marketplace Expo organized by the Friends of Zan Wesley Holmes, Jr. Community Outreach Center (ZWHJCOC) and held on Friday, June 16 and Saturday, June 17 at Dallas ISD’s Billy Earl Dade Middle School (2727 Al Lipscomb Way). Downtown Dallas building lands largest PACE loan in Texas history

The developer of the Butler Brothers building has landed the biggest Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) loan in Texas history, $23.9 million, through the Dallas PACE Program. This funding will help the developer update the building with a variety of energy-efficient systems. Source: Dallas Business Journal, July 7, 2017.

KPMG grows its Arts District presence

KPMG has expanded its space in the Dallas Arts District, for a total of 193,430 square feet in its namesake KPMG Plaza at Hall Arts tower. The firm expects to be in the new space by the end of summer. Manny Fernandez, managing partner of KPMG's Dallas office, says "Since we moved into KPMG Plaza in August 2015, we have enjoyed the vibrancy of the Arts District." Source: D Magazine, July 24, 2017.

Statler Hotel developers starting garage and mixed-use project this month in downtown Dallas

Developers of downtown Dallas' historic Statler Hotel project are about to start construction on a new building across the street. Dallas' city plan commission has given approval for a mixed-use building that would be constructed on Harwood Street. Source: Dallas Morning News, July 5, 2017.

Upscale ice cream stand debuts in southern Dallas with community spirit

Dallas' newest hotel, The Lorenzo, offers amazing art show

The first clue that The Lorenzo isn't your standard hotel is at the front door, where a bright purple sculpture arches over the entry, greeting visitors. Art is incorporated everywhere, even at the outdoor pool, transforming it into its own work of art. Source: Fox 4 News, July 6, 2017.

Discount Tire hub kicks off in Far Southern Dallas this month

National automotive retailer Discount Tire's new regional distribution center in Far Southern Dallas will open in early 2019. Construction began this month on the 700,000-square-foot warehouse on an almost 53-acre site on Bonnie View Rd. south of I-20. Source: Dallas Morning News, July 17, 2017.

  • The Council for Community and Economic Research publishes a quarterly Cost of Living Index to provide an accurate measure to compare cost of living differences among urban areas. Items on which the index is based have been chosen to reflect different categories of consumer expenditures. The index remains near the national average of 100 (Dallas = 101.2).

  • Continued declines in oil and gas industry activity have led to a sustained lower composite index cost of living score for Houston compared to Dallas.
