The City of Dallas will launch new foster program with first responders
What:
The City of Dallas and the DAWG Project are teaming up to launch a new program that recruits foster families as “first responders” for pets in need.
Media are invited to follow along with Dallas police officers who have volunteered to foster as they search through DAS for their foster dog. DAS staff and Dallas police will also be on hand to discuss the foster program and how it helps pets in the community.
“Fostering a dog saves more than one pet’s life,” said Assistant Police Chief Paul Stokes, who has signed up to foster a dog. “While the fostered pet is in a temporary home, more space is available at shelters for other dogs to find permanent homes and often families fall in love and keep the foster animal.” Fosters can apply to be short or long term. Once a foster is approved, training is provided along with supplies that include crates and leashes.
