General News

CBRE Group's Annual Research Report says Dallas one of top areas adding tech talent

Dallas has been named one of the top ten cities adding tech talent, per CBRE Group’s annual research report “Scoring Tech Talent,” which ranks 50 US and Canadian markets on their ability to attract and cultivate tech talent. The top ten cities shared distinct characteristics – high concentrations of college-educated workers, major universities producing tech graduates, and large millennial populations. The Dallas area added 44,620 tech jobs from 2011-2015. Source: UrbanLand, August 29, 2016.

Dallas' Shops at Park Lane keeps on growing with two new retail options

Two popular retail brands, Eddie Bauer and Torrid, are coming to The Shops at Park Lane this fall. The Eddie Bauer store will be located on the ground floor of a new five-story office and retail building at the shopping center while Torrid, a popular plus-size brand, will be located near Old Navy and F21 on the upper level. Building permits filed for next Cypress Waters project

The next stage of Billingsley Co.’s Cypress Waters project is moving ahead, as the developer has filed building permits for a five-story, 250,000 square foot office building. The building will be part of mixed-use complex The Sound, which will include offices, shops, restaurants and apartments. Source: Dallas Morning News, September 12, 2016.

Northwest Highway project one of the largest new retail centers planned in Dallas

Demolition work has begun on the new High Point Cross shopping center, located at Northwest Highway and Abrams Road. At 275,000 square feet, it will be one the largest new shopping centers currently in the works in Dallas. Marketing materials being distributed by commercial real estate firm CBRE/UCR show a two-level, urban-style retail center. Source: Dallas Morning News, September 9, 2016.

Regis creating one of US' largest collaborative office spaces in historical Uptown building

In October Regis Corp. will open a 67,000 square foot co-working complex, called Spaces, at 1919 McKinney Avenue. It is the third such complex created by Regis in the US. The other two are located in Silicon Valley and New York City. Source: Dallas Morning News, September 9, 2016.

Uptown Dallas' Harwood District grows with a 10th building

Harwood International has broken ground on its 10th building of its 18-block development just north of downtown Dallas. The 22-story, 226,778 square foot office high-rise on McKinnon Street is scheduled to open in 2018. Harwood Design Factory is the project architect. Source: Dallas Morning News, September 8, 2016.

Southern Dallas News

Dallas Streetcar has expanded to Bishops Arts District

The latest extension to the Dallas Streetcar service has opened, extending service from West Dallas’ Methodist Dallas Medical Center to the Bishop Arts District. Service begins at Union Station in downtown Dallas and ridership is free, with service from 9:30am to midnight, seven days a week. Source: KERA News, August 29, 2016.

How TOD is fueling growth in Southern Dallas

Developers are revitalizing southern Dallas by focusing on Transit-Oriented Development (TOD), a mix of adaptive re-use and new construction projects. Due to the focus on TOD-related projects such as the Lancaster Corridor, Greater Downtown/Cedars, and North Oak Cliff, southern Dallas’ tax base increased $1.6B from 2011 to 2015. New runway now open at Dallas Executive Airport

After 1-1/2 years of reconstruction, Dallas Executive Airport runway 13-31 has opened. The new pavement will provide stability to withstand the abrasive action of traffic and adverse weather conditions, meeting all FAA standards. Source: Dallas Weekly, September 2, 2016.

Three townhome projects underway near Bishop Arts

Three different townhome projects are under construction near the Bishop Arts District, on Melba Street and North Bishop Ave, West Neely and Elsbeth Streets, and West Tenth Street and Adams Avenue. Economic Growth Widespread across Metropolitan Areas

  • Real GDP increased in 292 of the nation’s 381 metropolitan areas in 2015.

  • The Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington MSA ranked 5th in the nation in total real GDP, with a 2015 growth rate of 3.6%.

  • Contributing most to the 3.6% real GDP increase in the Dallas-Fort Worth MSA was the professional and business services sector, reporting a $4.1 billion increase over 2014 (+7.5%).
