World’s Largest Swimming Lesson™ To Make A Splash In Dallas

 

 

 
WHAT:     World’s Largest Swimming Lesson™

For the seventh year, area youth will converge on City of Dallas community pools to learn a life-saving lesson and attempt to break the Guinness world record for spreading the message that learning to swim saves lives.

 

The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson is a simultaneous swimming lesson held locally and globally to create awareness about the importance of teaching kids to swim to help prevent drowning, the second leading cause of death of ages 1-14.

 

 

WHO:        Dallas youth will join with thousands of others around the globe to participate in The World’s 

                  Largest Swimming Lesson at selected City of Dallas pools.

 

 

WHEN:     Friday, June 24

 

 

TIME:       10 a.m.        Simultaneous swimming lessons get under way

 

Note:        Media are invited to Lake Highlands North Pool (9940 White Rock Trail) for the

                 swimming lesson and interviews with Dallas Park and Recreation aquatics

                 manager Robin Steinshnider and Dallas Aquatics staff.

 

WHY:        The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson was created to spread the

word that swimming lessons save lives. Research shows that if a child doesn’t learn to swim before the third grade, they likely never will.

Dallas Aquatics, a division of the Dallas Park and Recreation Department, manages the city’s seasonal community pools, Bachman Indoor Pool and Bahama Beach Waterpark. The division provides year-round water safety education programs, lifeguard and CPR training, and administers the Teach A Child to Swim scholarship fund. Dallas Park and Recreation operates 16 community pools for the 2012 summer season and one swim lesson center. Bachman Indoor Pool offers a wide variety of classes and fitness programs for people of all abilities from children to seniors. Bahama Beach offers the best family waterpark value in the metroplex.
