General News

TGI Fridays moves corporate office to "fun" space in Dallas

TGI Fridays has moved its corporate office to "a more fun, collaborative work space" in the Interchange Office Center at 19111 North Dallas Parkway. Company spokesman Quinton Crenshaw noted that "Our new space is completely in line with our brand's new look and feel - and mission to provide a fun, social experience for our guests and team members." Dallas is one of the world's best cities for millennials

In a lengthy profile of the world's best cities for millennials, London newspaper The Guardian lists Dallas as one of the "hottest spots for a good life." It states that Dallas is the 3rd fastest growing city in the U.S., with 25% of its population in the millennial age bracket, "unusually high for an American city." Now open: Alamo Drafthouse Cinema's new patio bar with killer cocktails, Dallas skyline views

Dallas' Cedars neighborhood is now home to the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema's latest outpost. The new location has, in addition to seven movie screens, restaurant and patio bar Vetted Well where customers can dine, drink, catch a concert, and even rent a room for karaoke. Love Field area boom will bring first new office project there in decades

Developer KDC is set to begin construction on the first office building to be built near Dallas Love Field in almost three decades. The new building is part of a $200 million mixed-use West Love development under construction on Mockingbird Lane. It will have 150,000 to 200,000 square feet of office space and 65,000 square feet of adjoining restaurant and retail space. Source: Dallas Morning News, February 23, 2016.

Dallas is crushing it when it comes to women-owned businesses

An analysis of the growth of women-owned businesses in the U.S.' 25 largest cities noted Dallas had the fifth highest five-year growth rate, growing by 58%, compared to the national average of 27%. Three criteria were used - the total number of women-owned businesses, five- and ten-year growth rates for those businesses, and their average revenue. Source: Dallas Culture Map, March 6, 2016.

Local designer hits big time with Hollywood celebs like Chris Rock wearing his clothes

Fashion designer De'vaun Robinson was a featured designer at last month's The Pin Show, North Texas' annual celebration of independent fashion talent. Some of Hollywood's biggest names, such as Chris Rock, wear his clothes. Source: NBC DFW, February 19, 2016.

Major global retailer flips over these socially conscious Dallas sandals

Dallas-based Hari Mari has had its footwear selected by The Gap for distribution at its top-tier stores as part of the company's increased focus on socially responsive products. Given its earlier deal with Nordstrom, this means Hari Mari's products can now be found in more than 500 brick-and-mortar stores in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Bahamas, and Japan. Source: Dallas Culture Map, March 3, 2016.

Southern Dallas News

Bottling firm leases major warehouse in I-20 corridor in southwest Dallas

One of the largest producers of private-label bottled water and other beverages, Niagara Bottling, has leased a 630,000 square foot building in southern Dallas' Mountain Creek industrial park. The building will be used by Niagara Bottling as a regional distribution center, and represents a significant expansion for the company, which already has a large facility in the same area. Townhome project on the way up south of downtown Dallas

Sphinx Development Corp. is building a 49-unit townhome project to target homebuyers who want to be close to downtown Dallas. Plans are for the homes to start around $170,000 for 1,400 square feet of living space and will be located at Compton Street and Fran Way near Clarendon Drive just south of downtown. Home prices in Dallas area rise 1.1% during Q4 2015

  • The Federal Housing Finance Agency House Price Index is calculated using home sales price information gathered from mortgages sold to or guaranteed by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. 

  • Home prices in the Dallas-Plano-Irving Metropolitan Division increased 1.1 percent in the fourth quarter of 2015. Over the same time period home prices for the entire U.S. rose 1.4 percent.
