Dallas, TX - Minor leaks account for more
than 1 trillion gallons of water wasted every year in U.S. homes. Since 2009,
the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s WaterSense® program has promoted Fix
a Leak Week in March each year to heighten public awareness about the need to
repair those pesky drips.
Home Depot stores across North
Texas, with support from Dallas Water Utilities and the Tarrant Regional Water
District, have coordinated to provide free Fix a Leak Workshops on Saturday,
March 19. Workshops are available at all Home Depot Stores in North Texas: ·
10:00 a.m.-10:40
a.m. (Repair/Replace Leaking
Faucets) ·
10:40 a.m.-11:20
a.m. (Repair/Replace Leaking
Toilets) ·
11:20 a.m.-12:00
p.m. (Repair/Replace Sprinkler Heads)
There is also a free
do-it-yourself plumbing repairs workshop on Tuesday, March 15 from 6:30 p.m. to
8:30 p.m. at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Recreation Center (2922 Martin Luther
King, Jr. Boulevard, Dallas, TX 75215). Joshua Knickerbocker, a licensed
plumber with Dallas Water Utilities will be the instructor. Below are some of
the topics that will be covered at the workshop: ·
Replacing toilet
flapper valves ·
Fixing leaky faucets ·
Installing faucet
aerators and low-flow showerheads ·
Water Conservation

“We’re hoping that this program will heighten
public awareness about the importance of checking household fixtures and sprinkler
systems for leaks,” Division Manager for City
of Dallas Water Utilities Carole R. Davis says. “Doing so not only saves money,
it also saves our precious water resources.”
A leaky faucet that drips at the
rate of one drip per second can waste more than 3,000 gallons per year. Click
